Taylor Swift donated $500,000 to Nashville flood relief last week, and the country superstar is continuing to do her part by lending her talents to Nashville Rising: A Benefit Concert for Flood Recovery on June 22. The event will be hosted by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, with funds helping Nashville recover from last week’s devastating floods.

Swift will be joined by fellow teen queen Miley Cyrus, as well as country stars like Carrie Underwood, Brooks & Dunn, LeAnn Rimes, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride and more names to come, People reports. The June show is set to take place at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Funds will go to the Community Foundation, which provides philanthropic services in Middle Tennessee.

“The damage that we’ve seen to people’s homes and the effect that the flooding has had on their lives is unimaginable,” McGraw and Hill said in a statement. “But we’ve seen the spirit of our community firsthand, as volunteers, church groups and our local business leaders rally to help. We all need to continue to support those in need in any way that we can, and for that reason, we could not be more appreciative to all of the artists, the companies and the people behind the scenes who collectively will make June 22 a truly special night.”

Ke$ha will hold her own benefit concert on June 16 at the Limelight entertainment venue in Nashville. “Nashville helped shape me as an artist and as a person, and my love for this city is beyond words,” she said. “I will continue to do anything I can to help rebuild this city and support the families and animals who have been affected by this tragedy.”

While Miley Cyrus’ new album, Can’t Be Tamed, doesn’t drop until June 22, the singer/actress is still looking ahead to what’s next.

“I think my fans will be excited to know they’ve got more to look forward to,” said Cyrus, who just released a clip for the album’s title track. “It’s not just gonna be [this]. We’ve got another season of the show ['Hannah Montana'], which I think people are excited about that. I’m working on a movie this summer.”

Miley recently announced plans to take a break from music and focus on her acting career, but she isn’t planning to abandon it altogether. “I think [my fans have] a lot to look forward to in music as well,” she teased.

For right now, Miley fans can enjoy her spicy new song and video, which she says got full approval from her parents.

“My mom was on set,” she said of the edgy video. “And my dad loves it, because I think my dad was thinking I was a little crazy as I was writing it. When you see it, they were so proud of the treatment I came up with.”

Plus, she thinks the video is pretty spot-on to who she is as a person. “I think it definitely shows a change of what people remember me as, but it’s not trying to not be me,” Cyrus said. “I didn’t want to be just a character. I wanted to be myself and just in a bird-like form in the way I dressed.”

Miley Cyrus’ latest music video, “Can’t Be Tamed,” shows the Disney star leaving her Hannah Montana wig and image in the dust in favor of wings, skin-hugging outfits and sexy dance moves. As she dances in her exotic-bird getup, Cyrus continues to show that while she may not be a woman just yet, she’s not a girl anymore either.

“I think it definitely shows a change of what people remember me as, but it’s not trying to not be me,” Cyrus told MTV News about the first video off her new album, Can’t Be Tamed, due out in June. “I didn’t want to be just a character. I wanted to be myself and just in a bird-like form in the way I dressed.”

And while Cyrus is trying to appear more mature in the darker-themed video, directed by Robert Hales, she isn’t planning on becoming unrecognizable to her original fans. “I think that’s why the video is so unique,” she offered. “The lighting is different, the outfit may be different, but what you see in me is the same since I was 11-years-old on ‘Hannah Montana.’ ”

Miley thinks that fans will look at the clip and say, “There’s the smile we know her for. … These are things that she does.”

Some may look at Miley Cyrus’ new “Can’t Be Tamed” video and be reminded of a time when Britney Spears left her teenage, bubblegum image behind in favor of a sexier, more grown-up identity.

Seeing Cyrus dance around a museum breaking windows, getting cozy with her dancers and wearing a barely there bird costume lets her fans know she’s serious about making the transition to adulthood. But Cyrus insisted that she wasn’t following some sort of adolescent-pop-star handbook when making the video — the ideas were all her own.

“I made a big point to everyone that I didn’t want anyone else to watch a music video and show me and say, ‘This is what I think we should do,’ ” she told MTV News of the clip for her Can’t Be Tamed title track. “I don’t think it looks like any other music video. I think if we would have looked at another music video or listened to another song or looked at a different artist, it could have easily [been influenced].”

Cyrus said she didn’t want her video to be a cookie-cutter one, like so many she sees on a daily basis, no matter how good the quality. “I see videos all the time that I’m just like, ‘Yeah, it’s a great video, but I’ve seen it before,’ ” she said.

Can’t Be Tamed is due June 22.

After her summer album release, Miley Cyrus wants to take a break from making music. But her fans still have that next album to look forward to before she focuses solely on making movies, like “The Last Song,” out Friday (April 2). So what can they expect from Cyrus’ next batch of new music?

“My record is coming out this summer,” she said. “I’m excited about that. I’m looking forward to that, and then hopefully I can continue to do more films. [The album is] a little different. It’s kind of poppier, but then it still has an edge. All of my music kind of has to. I think it’s really fun. It’s definitely a good summer CD. It’s good to blast in your car.”

While much of Cyrus’ music has been more pop and even touched on country, she said this next album will have a bit of a Lady Gaga influence to it. “My new record has more of a techno vibe on some stuff. It’s fun,” she said. “You know, I just want to kind of do all different types of music, same as I do with movies. I never want to get stuck in a rut and just do one thing.”

In addition to the music on her own album, she has a duet with Bret Michaels, “Nothin’ to Lose,” for his record. The duo got some heat for the song’s racy content, but Cyrus just brushed it off. “I’ve always been super into his music,” she said. “He was the first concert that I ever went to, and it’s great when you can find people you can jive with and get along with.”

As much as she loves music, Cyrus said she’s ready for a break. “I have one more record coming out this summer in June, and then after that, I want to take a step back from music for a while,” she explained. “I want to continue to do film. Later in life, another record. But for now, I’d like to focus on movies.”

The Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards hit Los Angeles on Saturday (March 27) with plenty of performances, surprises and, of course, slime.

Kevin James opened the show in a sketch with Nick stars Big Time Rush, who gave the host some pointers on how to make the show cool. Their biggest hint: Make sure someone gets slimed. When James hit the stage, “angel” Adam Sandler descended from the ceiling to remind his “I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry” co-star that he could do it. James then took off the tux and started dancing while Sandler sang a little ditty to the tune of KC and the Sunshine Band’s “Get Down Tonight,” with slime released from the floor.

Rosario Dawson and Shaun White gave out the first award for Favorite Movie Actor to “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” star Taylor Lautner. “Is this happening? I have to admit, I have always dreamt of winning one of these orange blimps,” Lautner told the crowd. “Seriously. And I can’t believe I’m finally holding one.”

James made sure the show was “beyond awesome.” How? By firing free stuff out of a canon. Ladies and gentlemen, this isn’t the Grammys. He told the crowd there were more than 115 million votes, adding that it was a new world record for awards-show fan votes.

“Karate Kid” stars Jayden Smith and Jackie Chan showed off some martial-arts moves then handed out the Favorite TV Show award to “iCarly.” Miranda Cosgrove eagerly accepted the award, saying, “Wow, this is amazing. Most of all, I want to say thank you to the fans.”

George Lopez and Tyra Banks hit the stage to present Favorite TV Actress. Banks praised the ladies for “chasing their dreams,” and the blimp went to “Wizards of Waverly Place” star Selena Gomez. “I’m so nervous,” she told the crowd. “I know it’s because of you guys I get to live my dream out every day. I’m the luckiest girl in the whole world.”

Big Time Rush introduced Rihanna, who took the stage and sang her hit “Hard” in a sparkly black hat and a gray and hot-pink dress. The stage was complete with a band, a tank and military-inspired backup dancers. The medley also included “Rude Boy, with the risqué lyrics toned down, and “Don’t Stop the Music.”

The awards show included quite a few slimings. “The Last Airbender” and “Twilight” star Jackson Rathbone was one of the many celebrities who ended up green by the end of the night. Jonah Hill and Katy Perry, in a neon-blue wig and yellow dress, presented the award for Favorite Movie Actress. But first, Hill pulled a fast one on Perry, tricking her into opening a box that covered her in slime.

That award went to Miley Cyrus, who ran away from a slime-covered Perry. “Thank you, Katy, for not sliming me,” she said. “It really got you, but good thing we both wear wigs. … Thank you guys so much!”

After Perry got slimed, the stage needed to be cleaned up before Victoria Justice and Dev Patel introduced Justin Bieber. The teen sensation sang his hit “Baby” with backup dancers and a full band. His performance included some smooth moves and a lot of fan interaction with the girls near the stage. He also displayed his rap skills, tackling Ludacris’ part in the song. It wasn’t just his young fans singing along with the tune; a shot of the crowd also showed Tyra Banks singing along.

Keke Palmer and Miranda Cosgrove presented the Big Help Award to first lady Michelle Obama for her efforts to prevent childhood obesity. “Nickelodeon has big fans in the White House,” she said, accepting her award via video. “I’m always so impressed by the passion and energy you put into everything you do. You guys have to make smart and healthy choices in your own lives. It’s not always easy, but I know you can do it.”

“Where was that speech when I was 6?” James joked.

Zoe Saldana and Robert Downey Jr. presented the award for Favorite Movie. “I thought you’d be bluer,” he joked to the actress. Surprisingly, “New Moon” was beat out by “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.” Stars Jesse McCartney, Anna Faris and Zachary Levi accepted the blimp. “You probably don’t recognize me. I’m usually a lot shorter and hairier,” McCartney joked. Levi added: “And to ‘Twilight,’ sorry!”

“Date Night” stars Steve Carell and Tina Fey thought they were going to get an award. “Maybe it’s a lifetime-achievement award,” Carell joked before they won a slime-time achievement award and got covered in the green goo. “This is better than winning any award!” they agreed.

The show ended with James taking the show “beyond awesome” by getting slimed with “Angel” Adam Sandler making his return and with Apolo Anton Ohno setting a new slime world record by catapulting himself into a small pool of slime.

Other wins included Favorite Reality Show for “American Idol,” Favorite Male Singer for Jay-Z, and Taylor Swift taking home Favorite Female Singer and Favorite Song (“You Belong With Me”).

“American Idol” has ditched its planned Teen Idol theme week in favor of a more wide-ranging, age-neutral category for Tuesday’s (March 23) live show: Billboard #1 Hits. But the youngsters will be represented in the form of newly announced mentor Miley Cyrus. What will this switcheroo mean for this week’s airing, beyond the potential for some seriously awkward TV when the 17-year-old Cyrus might be disseminating advice to new father Michael “Big Mike” Lynche about something like Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On”?

We’ll have to wait and see what happens. We don’t yet know what season nine’s top 11 men and women will sing, nor do we know if Cyrus will try to teach any of them her pole-dancing moves. But we do have some suggestions for the likes of Crystal Bowersox, Siobhan Magnus and the rest of their crooning cohorts. Here’s what we’d like to hear from these “Idol” hopefuls.

The Women

Crystal Bowersox: We loved hearing Crystal go the classic-rock route with Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Long as I Can See the Light,” and we loved when she brought out both the guitar and the harmonica for Alanis Morissette’s “Hand in My Pocket.” Now Sox should combine both those performance with a goosebump-raising rendition of Neil Young’s 1972 hit “Heart of Gold.”

Siobhan Magnus: A few weeks into the live shows, it feels like Magnus’ wheelhouse lies in territory that mixes quirkily glam theatrics with songs that allow her to soar into her upper register. Yet there’s also something about Magnus that endearingly screams, “I’m just a girl singing in my bedroom … except I’m doing it way better than you ever did!” That’s why we’re going out on a limb — an awesome limb, mind you — and suggesting that Siobhan follow in the footsteps of ’80s teen-queen Tiffany. A dark, slow, stripped-down version of “I Think We’re Alone Now” would be pure magic. And she’d been in good company: Carrie Underwood busted out Tiffany’s “Could’ve Been” on her way to the “Idol” title in 2005.

Didi Benami: Didi’s finest live show performance came when she picked up the acoustic guitar for a folky take on Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon.” We’d like to see her haul out the ax again and stick with old-school rock tunes rather than more contemporary material (she stumbled with “The Way I Am” by Ingrid Michaelson). Let’s see how she does bringing a bit of her Adele-esque vocals to a Beatles tune like, “Hey, Jude,” “Let It Be” or a super-slowed-down version of “Help!”

Paige Miles: Oddly enough, her best performance of the season came with the Rolling Stones’ “Honky Tonk Woman.” So, as strange as this is to say, we suggest that Miles stick with the classic rock — something fun that will have everyone at home singing along. Peter, Paul and Mary’s version of “Leaving on a Jet Plane”? The Beatles’ “Penny Lane”? This might be Miles’ last week, so she should make it a good one.

Katie Stevens: When it comes to Stevens, we feel like a #1 record worn out after a few too many spins on the turntable: Why does she insist on presenting herself as the oldest teenager this world has ever seen? Katie’s mandate this week is simple: Pick a tune that’s topped the charts within the last two years. Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You” would work.

The Men

Casey James: He’s gone electric the last few weeks, but we still argue that James’ best minutes onstage came when he was strumming the acoustic guitar during Bryan Adams’ “Heaven.” We encourage the “Idol” hopeful to hop back up on a stool and deliver a searing take on Extreme’s 1991 tune, “More Than Words.”

Lee Dewyze: We keep waiting for Lee to bury his singer-songwriter instincts and bring out some serious rock and roll. Hasn’t happened yet, and we’re getting a bit tired of his rhythm-heavy variations on the Stones, Owl City and Snow Patrol. Now is his chance to try something new, something along the lines of what David Cook and Chris Daughtry delivered a few seasons back: straightforward rock. What could be a better choice than Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child o’ Mine”? If instead Dewyze goes with “Hey There Delilah” by the Plain White T’s, we’re going to be pissed.

Michael Lynche: Before last week’s Stones misfire, Big Mike had been riding an impressive “Idol” winning streak with a string of R&B-infused performances. We want to hear more of the same. If he could ever get clearance — highly unlikely, but we’re talking wish list here — we’d have Lynche channeling Michael Jackson from his Bad days: “The Way You Make Me Feel” or “Man in the Mirror.”

Andrew Garcia: Garcia is treading water at this point, veering between styles and genres because nothing seems to be working since his Hollywood Week take on of Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up.” The singer should quit trying to do new things and admit what’s he good at — honestly the only thing he’s good at: reworking the poppiest of pop tunes. That’s why he should go for something like the Spice Girls’ “Wannabe” or Hanson’s “MMMBop.”

Aaron Kelly: Kelly’s tender, slightly cheesy performance of “Angie” last week was the 16-year-old’s strongest to date. His voice sounds most at ease in the upper register, while his musical sensibility resides with tunes you’d hear on adult-contemporary radio. Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me” fits the bill.

Tim Urban: His attempt to bring some island flavor to the Stones crashed and burned. But that didn’t seem to matter, as Urban once again was voted through to the next week — presumably on the power of his dimples, not his vocals. The 19-year-old hasn’t staked out a strong identity as an artist, so he needs to pick a song that he can coo in the direction of the people (girls?) who have been consistently voting for the guy. Our pick? Hall & Oates’ 1980 hit “Kiss on My List.” It’s just silly enough to work.

Haeley Vaughn’s smile was infectious, but her uneven singing left the “American Idol” judges (and fans) frustrated.

After her shaky performance of Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb,” Vaughn was eliminated Thursday, along with Jermaine Sellers, John Park and Michelle Delamor. Will the 16-year-old’s country/pop dreams still come true? We talked to the high-schooler from Fort Collins, Colorado, on Friday (March 5) to talk about that and more.

Q: What did you think when Kara suggested you take a year to strengthen your vocal skills?

A: I kind of agreed with her. I think that more experience and more time working on my vocals would be good. I think experience is always better, especially since I’m only 16 and this is the first big thing that I’ve done ever. I’ve never performed in front of millions of people before; I’ve never even performed in front of 100. I think it’s always good to get more experience and work on the things that I need to work on.

Q: The contestants seem to be particularly nervous this year. Is the anxiety level really high?

A: The first week was really tough. We were all super nervous and scared and worried about our song choice. The first week, we were all just freaking out and trying to pick the right songs and make sure America would like them. Nerves are always gonna play a huge factor in what we do on the show.

Q: Why didn’t you sing any country songs during your first two semifinal performances?

A: The songs I chose, I made them kind of pop/country. I wanted to not have to sing Martina McBride every week just because I wanted to be a country artist. When Carrie Underwood was on her season, she didn’t sing only country songs. She was very versatile, and she chose songs of a different genre and she made them fit her country style. And that was my whole thing that I did too.

Q: Do you think the judges have been particularly rough this year?

A: Simon was definitely really harsh this season. But, I mean, he has reason to be. … Sometimes he should soften the blow a little bit, but that’s Simon Cowell. He’s been like that for nine years.

Q: Are you going to go back to school or focus on your career?

A: I’m definitely gonna keep working on my career. I’m gonna keep singing. Hopefully, doors will open up for me. I’m a really big fan of Disney and Disney Channel, so hopefully there’s something there that I can work on. I’m just gonna keep working on my career and doing what I love to do.

Q: What kind of career do you see yourself having?

A: Miley Cyrus is one of my icons. Oh my gosh, I love her…. Country music is definitely my genre, pop/country. And playing my guitar is awesome. Yeah, if I were given the chance to do that, I would definitely jump on it.

Q: Have you had a chance to talk to any “American Idol” alumni to get advice?

A: I talked to Allison [Iraheta] for a bit when she came and she performed the first week. And she just told me to stay true to who I am and keep doing my thing and keep doing one genre of music and just be really strong and confident.

When the country-rock ballad “Nothin’ to Lose” was released online last week, Michaels said he received a lot of feedback about having the 17-year-old Cyrus sing harmonies to his suggestive lyrics.
