Last week, before the Clash of the Titans remake shattered Easter weekend box office records — much to the chagrin of Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers — we asked for your favorite songs by a far superior Clash. The votes ranged from The Clash classics to Combat Rock, but “London Calling” captured the reader vote, beating “Train in Vain,” “Rock the Casbah” and the M.I.A.-sampled “Straight to Hell”:

Weekend Rock List: The Clash (Not of the Titans)

The big popcorn movie hitting theaters this weekend is the bombastic remake of Clash of the Titans, which Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers gave a scathing one-star review. Instead of spending $12 seeing Clash, we recommend taking those two hours and sitting down listening to Sandinista! by a much superior Clash, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame punk icons. In order to keep the Clash’s good name from being sullied by this film, in this weekend’s Rock List we’re requesting your favorite Clash tracks. On Monday, we’ll reveal the winners in a Rolling Stone-approved playlist. Until then, here’s five that we always have on repeat:

News Ticker: The Clash, Ray Charles, Amy Winehouse, Metallica

The Clash’s Mick Jones and Paul Simonon both play on Gorillaz’s new Plastic Beach, and Spinner reports the pair might be considering joining Damon Albarn’s outfit on a brief tour. If true, it would mark the first time the former bandmates have shared a stage in public since 1983.
Unchain My Heart, a musical about Ray Charles, will make its Broadway debut November 7th, the AP reports. Ray producer Stuart Benjamin is working on the project.
Amy Winehouse is getting into the fashion business. launching a new line for Fred Perry. The singer’s Website announces that her 17-piece black and pink-dominated collection features polo shirts and pencil skirts and is due in October.
TIcketless Metallica fans rioted in Colombia earlier this week, leading to more than 100 arrests and eight injuries outside the band’s show at Bogota’s Simón Bolívar Park. Pollstar reports.

Watch This: Awesome New Featurette for Clash of the Titans

Clash of the Titans is my most anticipated movie coming out in March, I think it just looks so awesome. Latino Review got their hands on a new featurette for the film featuring cast interviews with everyone from Sam Worthington to Liam Neeson to Ralph Fiennes and some new footage and a little behind-the-scenes peek. It’s not the most amazing featurette, but it’s pretty damn cool, and I’m only being made more excited watching this. I know there are some people complaining about this looking dull, but I love the upgraded modern look to all the Greek gods and the intensity Louis Leterrier brings to it. Totally can’t wait to see it!

Follows Perseus and his quest to battle Medusa and the Kraken in order to save the Princess Andromeda.

Clash of the Titans is directed by French filmmaker Louis Leterrier, of Unleashed, Transporter 2, and The Incredible Hulk previously. The screenplay was originally written by Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark) then later revised by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (both of Crazy/Beautiful, The Tuxedo, Aeon Flux). This is a remake of Desmond Davis' original 1981 classic movie of the same name. Warner Brothers will be bringing Clash of the Titans to regular 2D and 3D theaters everywhere starting on April 2nd. Still excited?

Confirmed: Bubo the Mechanical Owl is in Clash of the Titans

Okay, I know, I know, that headline is a bit much, but I’m a huge Clash of the Titans fan. And from the very start, the first thing I was wondering about the remake was whether Bubo the Owl was going to be in it. Laugh all you want, but that owl kicks some ass in the original 1981 movie (not really, but he is pretty damn cool). Anyway, Film School Rejects just caught up with some of the writers of the remake – Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi – and asked them, straight up, if Bubo was in it. Yes, Bubo is in it, he supposedly gets a “loving cameo.” Although, it’s only one scene, and it could supposedly end up on the cutting room floor.

Wait, one scene? I’m sure Bubo gets a good cameo, but isn’t the owl an integral part of the story? From Wikipedia: “She orders Hephaestus to build a mechanical replica of Bubo as an aid for Perseus. Bubo leads Perseus to the Stygian Witches…” So how did he get to the witches in this one if there is no owl to guide his way? Whatever, I’m getting way too invested in this, let’s just continue on. FSR says the scene with Bubo “has been back and forth – in the print, on the floor, back in the reel” but for now, according to the writers, it’s in the movie. But, of course, it’s director Louis Leterrier and Warner Brothers that have the final cut.

I doubt there’s anyone else who is as excited about this as I am, but damnit I had to write about it, even if it was just for fun. I guess we’ll find out on April 2nd whether Bubo makes the cut, but I’ll be looking for him.

Warner Bros. has tested 3-D upgrades for ancient bloodbath saga Clash of the Titans, and the results are in: The studio says the stereoscopic gore looks good enough to warrant a 3-D release for the movie April 2.

3D This, 3D That: Clash, Potter Back in 3D; Transformers, Too

Here we go, welcome to the world after Avatar has made over $2 billion. It’s now the time when every day we hear about another goddamn movie potentially going 3D just because it’s the most popular trend in Hollywood right now since vampires. We previously heard “rumors” exactly a week ago stating that Louis Leterrier’s Clash of the Titans remake would be going 3D, pushing the release back a week to April 2nd, and that the last two Harry Potter movies would both be in 3D, too. Now Warner Brothers has confirmed that all three of those movies will be going 3D. And then there’s talk about Transformers 3 going 3D, too!

Found in a Variety article (via ComingSoon) is this little tidbit about Paramount interested in going 3D:

Bay’s next project is “Transformers 3,” and there have been discussions among Bay, Paramount and Industrial Light & Magic about going 3D with the pic. The big stumbling block is the extra time required to do production and visual effects in 3D, as the movie’s release date is already set. Having the pic post-converted could alleviate that problem.

Oh no, why would they ever consider converting to 3D in post-production when this is one movie they could start shooting from the ground up in 3D?! It makes no sense. Paramount has set a July 1st, 2011 release for Transformers 3, which seems far away and actually really is. Warner Bros has also pushed the release of Clash of the Titans back to April 2nd in order to allow them to finish the 3D conversion. One big concern, though, is that there won’t be enough screens to run all 3D movies in April (including Alice in Wonderland and maybe still Avatar). I guess we’ll find out soon. Though I’ll be seeing Clash of the Titans in 2D, not 3D.

Awesome New International Trailer for Clash of the Titans!

Damn the gods… again! IGN has debuted a new full-length international trailer for Clash of the Titans that mixes some elements of the original teaser and theatrical trailer as well as some new scenes involving Zeus (Liam Neeson) and Hades (Ralph Fiennes). I have to say, I still think this looks awesome and I can’t wait to see it, but we’re nearing the point where I just don’t want to see any more new footage before seeing the actual movie itself. Don’t forget that Warner Bros may still be converting this to 3D by April. Maybe it’s just because I’m a big fan of the original Clash of the Titans, but I think this looks totally badass. Enjoy!
