Pierce Brosnan Updates Status of Thomas Crown Affair Sequel
Currently out on a promotional tour for his role in the upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, the actor formerly known as James Bond, or rather, Pierce Brosnan, still has two other films due out this year (Roman Polanski’s Ghost Writer and Allen Coulter’s Remember Me). Meanwhile, according to ComingSoon, it seems progress is still being made on the potential sequel to Brosnan’s 1999 action/heist movie The Thomas Crown Affair. Brosnan said of development on the project, “We’ve got the fourth script in and this is the closest we’ve gotten in structure to making sense. It’s very, very hard.”
The last word anyone heard on the sequel was that Paul Verhoeven would be directing with Angelina Jolie on-board to star opposite Brosnan. No word on whether that’s still in the cards, but Brosnan does confirm the need for a new leading lady along with some work on developing the characters: “Now we have the character, it’s not really fleshed out, so we have to work on him, Mr. Crown, and her, Miss Moore, another affair, more art, but it has to be an unexpected surprise.” ComingSoon notes they may have misheard the name of Crown’s female counterpart, but maybe that’s the name of the character Jolie was rumored to play.
While The Thomas Crown Affair certainly had its share of cool sequences and eroticism, I never saw it as anything more than James Bond with an art fetish (and the ability to steal this art unnoticed). Eleven years later, and I’m not sure there’s much demand for a sequel. Though the core of action movies hasn’t changed much, the style has become less polished and more gritty. A Thomas Crown sequel would either be a nice change of pace, try to blend in with the rest, or maybe something surprisingly different. This one has been developing for awhile, so we’ll have to wait and see if it ever gets off the ground. Anyone still interested?

Brosnan? I’m sold.
Honestly, The Thomas Crown Affair was flawless. And boy is there a need for something intelligent, elegant, exciting and sexy. Besides, we need more of that green drink thing on the silver screen, so get on with it!
I’m am completely interested. Brosnan hasn’t done many great things with this movie career lately but I always loved the first one and if Paul Verhoeven is still on board I am going to be there first week it comes out.
I remember the first one. The real suprise was Rene Russo showing her tits alot. WOW! that was a great suprise. They need to have another amazing rack in the next one. Preferbly from another cougar! You know one that guys have been wanting to see for along time already. Thats the only was it will be good.
I’ve been hearing about this project for years on in. Correct me if I’m mistaken, but wasn’t it known as The Topkapi Affair (or something like that) at one point? I don’t see how it’s so hard to get this one together. No one’s gonna remember the first when it is released. Sorry, IF it’s releasd.
The Thomas Crown Affair was a great movie and I would really like to see a sequel. TCA was sparky, inventive and erotic, an action movie for adults. John Mctieran directed Brosnan as the ultimate rogue Alpha male and Brosnan gave a definitve performance. In the world of great commerical movies TCA is still somewhere at the top. Brosnan is right, “caper” movies are really difficult to get right but I sure hope he succeeds.
I’m interested. I loved the first one (Brosnan’s not McQueen’s) & have been waiting a long time for a sequel. Bring it on.
Theirs absolutely no reason for this except to fill pockets, I understand hollywoods trying to pump money outta anything but this just seems ridiculous to me. The first wasn’t even that good NOT TO MENTION it was a remake of the Steve McQueen classic.
