LMFAO’s Sky Blu and Mitt Romney Scuffle on Flight to L.A.

Earlier this week, Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney was involved in a confrontation on a flight from Vancouver to Los Angeles. His alleged assailant? Sky Blu of the electro-rap duo LMFAO, the pourers of “Shots.” According to new reports, Sky Blu had the audacity to lower his seat back prior to the flight’s takeoff, which caused Romney, who was sitting behind the rapper, to loudly request that he straighten his first class seat.
From there, tensions escalated, and Romney’s spokesperson told the press Sky Blu became “physically violent,” the New York Daily News reports, leading the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to remove Sky Blu from the plane. In a video posted on TMZ, Sky Blu and his Party Rock accomplice Redfoo talk about their run-in with Romney, and Sky Blu insists Romney became physical first. “He grabbed my shoulder, and I was like boom get off of me,” Sky Blu said. “The man assaulted me. I was protecting myself.”
In the end, Romney did not pursue charges, and even though the police said they arrested and released Sky Blu, the MC claims he was never actually placed under arrest. Romney and his wife were in Vancouver for the Winter Olympics while LMFAO had a concert in the British Columbian city the night before.
Ironically, while this all went down in Vancouver, the encounter has strong ties to the city of Detroit: Even though Romney is the former Governor of Massachusetts, he was born in the Motor City, a pedigree that helped him win the Michigan Republican primary over John McCain in 2008. Sky Blu and Redfoo, meanwhile, are the nephew and son of Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, one of Detroit’s most important musical figures. Since Sky Blu seemed willing to forgive Romney for the encounter — “I’m sure he’s a good dude. It was just an unfortunate situation,” he said — maybe they can go to a Tigers game and hug it out.

Obviously all the class, tact and talent in the Gordy family went to Berry. Race and profession had nothing to do with what happened so stop trying to make this into a race issue. It has everything to do with class and acting like an adult. I don’t agree with Romney’s politics, but the man has class and he did what any man would do in the situation, at least any man with a sense of chivalry. Numbnuts decided to try and act like a harda$$, but instead came out looking like a spoiled brat and got booted. Moral of the story is don’t act like an a$$hole and you won’t have any problems.
WHO was involved in a scuffle with WHO?
Aren’t those of you who assume that stereotyping was involved guilty of actual stereotyping? Yes, you are.
“Sky Blu and Redfoo, meanwhile, are the nephew and son of Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, one of Detroit’s most important musical figures”
LMFAO are the new Rockwell, with a little splash of Humpty Hump thrown in. In other words, oxygen thieves.
Why is it always the rap guys fault. I am so sick of that. I am white middle class american woman who from the south LIKES rap and politics. Someone please explain to me why the rappers got ejected off the plain and NOT that anal retentive white politician. They BOTH were disruptive. If the rapper had of been behind the ass politician the situation would not have changed. They still would have kicked him off and not Romney. I hate living in such a biggoted country. I am glad I raised my son to believe we all bleed red no matter what our differences!!!!
@Scott Jones,
You ask “Now, what isn’t nice about ’sir, will you please move your seat up’?”
Blu said on the TMZ video that Romney said that very aggressively and loudly. There are several ways to say, “Sir,” and there are differences in their meanings.
The truth is, none of us knows what really happened, only Romney and Blu. All we know for sure is that the police took Romney’s word over Blu’s, and Romney’s spokesman got to the press first. The press then took Romney’s spokesman’s word as truth without trying to even contact Blu. None of the news accounts I’ve read even use the word “alleged” about Blu’s alleged attack on Romney.
Everyone can speculate all day long about why the press reacted this way, and why we’re taking one side or another, but the truth is we do not know what the truth is because we weren’t there. The press screwed up by trusting the Globe & Mail, a notoriously rightwing Canadian paper, which completely bought Romney’s version without talking to Blu.
Actually, Mitt has been arrested in the past for similar incidents. But that doesn’t stop conservatives for taking one look at SkyBlu and seeing a criminal.
Hate to burst the all of your bubbles on this one. Sky Blu account is not actuate. Romney ask him nicely a couple of times, and the dick wad rapper just sat there with his coat over his head. Romney’s wife was pinched, and the dick wad rapper wouldn’t do anything. What a gentleman he is…
There was no eagle claw grip, their was a tap on this shoulder to get his attention, and the Raper goes ballistic.
The police escorted the right guy off the plan! And everyone on the plan was happy when he left!
You are allowed to recline seats… just not during takeoff and landing.
Imagine if Obama, twenty years ago, had touched some random white guy and told him to move his seat.
Glenn Beck would be crying about it on national TV and a bunch of white people would be having some kind of rally about how Obama is a Nazi who is going to force ALL rich people to fly in the upright position.
Shoot… actually… I think I did hear Sarah Palin say something about this last week.
Rich white men pushing black guys around….
Isn’t that Romney’s campaign slogan?
(But Romney should leave out the part where he and his wife wet their pants and were rescued by the flight attendant.)
