Disney Developing an ‘Enchanted’ Sequel with Anne Fletcher

Enchanted

This is fantastic news! Enchanted was one of my favorite movies of 2007 (not even kidding), it’s such an incredibly fun movie, packed full of magical Disney charm. Variety has announced that Disney is developing a sequel and has hired Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam, Because I Said So, Fred Claus) to write the script and Anne Fletcher (Step Up, 27 Dresses, The Proposal) to direct. Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld, the two musical geniuses who made the first one what it was, will return as producers. No word if Amy Adams, James Marsden, or Patrick Dempsey will officially be back for this, but it’s expected that they’ll all return.

Variety says this sequel may be ready as early as next year, but they’re still in the early development stages. Enchanted 2 fits perfectly with the Disney’s “plans to make more movies that define the Disney brand.” For those that may have forgotten (or never saw the first one), Enchanted is “Disney’s riff on its classic fairy tale features, revolving around Giselle, a princess who is banished from her animated world by an evil queen and thrown onto the live action streets of Manhattan to fend for herself.” Although I don’t think Fletcher/Nelson are as talented as Kevin Lima and Bill Kelly from the original, I’m still totally excited for this sequel.
