Despite Two New Tracks, Janet Jackson “Not Working on an Album”

Janet Jackson may have two songs in rotation — “Nothing” and her Pitbull team-up “Heartbeat Love” — but fans anxious to hear her follow-up to 2008’s Discipline have a long wait ahead of them: Jackson tells Rolling Stone she’s not currently working on an album.

“There was a time where I was actually in the studio and I was recording, but I’m not working on an album,” she says. “There have been a lot of record labels that have asked me to sit down and talk with them, but I don’t know if I want to do something completely independent, or go with a major.” Discipline was Jackson’s first disc on Def Jam after she left her longtime label Virgin.
So what about the new songs? “Nothing” is a one-off she co-wrote and co-produced with Jermaine Dupri for the new Tyler Perry film Why Did I Get Married Too?, and the lyrics reflect the tensions and turmoil between characters, like Angela’s trust issues with Marcus (”You can even have the password to my phone”), as well as her own character Patricia’s guilt and regret over Gavin (”We should cherish every moment like it’s the last”). As for the second song, Jackson said she did it as a favor for Rodney Jerkins, for “fun.”
When Jackson does return to the studio, she’s not sure whether she’ll work toward a classic pop album (as “Nothing” might indicate) or do something more dance club-oriented (like “Heartbeat Love”): “I haven’t decided on exactly where I want to go or what I want to do.”

I agree with Frank and Jamie, as much as I want new music from Janet I don’t think it’s the right time for her to make another album as it seems she’s not in the right space. I believe focussing on acting will be good for her and when she is ready to come back to music it will be even better for it!
Note to tony; If you read the article in full you will see Janet admits she was in the studio making music but simply changed her mind. This article isn’t a fraud.
I can’t wait to hear her new material! All in all. janet is queen of the music game… her family is Music Royalty lets not forget that.. they paved the way for NUMEROUS artists of today! And Tyler Perry is not gay!.. Quit spitting that loose rap
I love Janet period, but lately, she seems more of an actress than as a singer. She is developing into a good actress, at this point, I’d rather see her as a actress than as a singer. She’s older now and more matured, and going backwards is not a good look.
WDIGM and WDIFM2 is not a chick flick. Im married and my wife and I enjoyed the first movie alot.
The reason Tyler Perry is doing “chick flicks” is because obviously he’s gay. Don’t get me wrong I don’t have anything against it b/c I’m gay but I do not like the fact that he is denying it.
And all of the films she is doing are Chick flicks because of Tyler Perry choosing to do feminist movies, which I don’t understand because he is a man..
OMG no new music but i have been waiting for so long… Rodney jerkins and jimmy jam both said they were in the studio with janet… I am starting to think this interview is a fraud.
This is so unfair, I want Janet to release a new album, and I want her to to tour and to come to the Uk this time. She’s leaving out her Uk fans, by only acting in films WHICH AREN’T coming out in the UK, i’m VERY upset at the moment!
I’m happy she is not rushing into an album. Do the acting thing for a while, live life, and let the music come when it comes. I’m sick and tired of these silly “pop” album with no substance. I feel like when she does decide to record again, she’ll do like Frank says and come more grown-up and mature than the bullshit that is out now by these girls.
