“American Idol” Set to Tackle Songs By the Rolling Stones

Two years ago American Idol celebrated the music of the Fab Four, and next week the show’s Top 12 will pick up that rockin’ tradition by belting out songs by “the Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the World,” the Rolling Stones. Host Ryan Seacrest made the announcement of next week’s musical theme on a radio promotion taped during last night’s episode, Entertainment Weeky reports. As it’s still too early on in the competition for celebrity mentors, it’s highly unlikely Mick Jagger or Keith Richards will participate, though Richards mentoring the kids on partying and excess for an hour would likely be more entertaining than the performances themselves.
We won’t know which contestants are singing what Stones classics until next week, but we’re already placing bets on what we expect to hear. On the ladies’ side, we anticipate “Satisfaction,” “Tumbling Dice,” “Time is on My Side,” “Gimme Shelter” (if a contestant is brazen enough to handle both Mick and the female leads) and, thanks to Susan Boyle, “Wild Horses.” For the men, we’re thinking “Brown Sugar,” “Miss You,” Sympathy for the Devil,” “Angie,” “Honky Tonk Woman” and “Waiting on a Friend.” “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” seems destined for the group performance, and let’s just add that any contestant who mines Goats Head Soup gets our automatic vote.

To A. Idol,
You’ll probably get your wish soon. The consensus is Idol is just about over.
It’s Simon Cowell’s final season, and most believe the show will not survive without him. Sure, they may try it one season without him, but it will fail miserably, ratings will plummet, and it will be cancelled once and for all. So, yeah, you’ll get your wish soon.
So…do people still watch this show? Why in the world would anyone give a F about American Idol at this point?? Or ever for that matter? Can’t it just all stop now…please?!!
Man, most of the girls on Idol look so chaste…..even the grateful dead chick (CB) looks barely the rebel…how can they possibly pull off any authentic stones covers? The whole thing is so painfully mediocre…there’s no hunger, no fire, just a pile of mass media saturated babies begging to be ground up in the star maker machinery behind the popular song. And then the judges drone on about authenticity…christ almighty! Imagine Mick and Keith tuning in to watch the cringefest!! Twist up a fatty and enjoy the show.
On the one hand… Memory Motel would be cool to hear by a whole bunch of them
On the other hand… Would any of the Stone have passed the audition for American Idol?
I can definitely imagine somebody belting out “Angie”…
Would also love to hear someone attempt “Shine a Light”
I hate when they do rock songs cause they always make them pop. All the rock stars are gone -.-

Honorable mention goes to “Coming Down Again” for the immortal lyric “stick my tongue in someone else’s pie”.
Clearly I don’t see any of the contestants performing these songs.
